The Rise and Decline of Christ

Imitation of Christ was once an amazing line, starting in 2000 and let me tell you why...it was all about the runway shows to me. Of course the actually outfits in a runway show are what is really important, but the dramatics of IOC is what thrilled audiences. Their idea of reworked fashion was also revolutionary at the time. Here is a simple, abbreviated timeline of IOC's runways:

+Fall 2001- In an unexpected twist, models were seated in the front row and editors were forced to walk the "runway."

+Spring 2001-The line takes over a funeral parlor, complete with casket and the models walk as mourners; a play on the term "fashion victim."

+Spring 2002- The runway show is turned into an auction at the famed house of Sotheby's and editors are the bidders. Models even don chandelier headdresses.

Damhave and Subkoff (directors) split.

+Fall 2002- Models vacuum in a furniture showroom, an ode to Helmut Newton.

+Fall 2003- The circus is the theme and non-vintage items begin to be shown on the runway.

Slowly Imitation of Christ grew less about theatrics, but also less about vintage. Today they were merely inspired from vintage pieces (something they claimed to dislike in their beginning) and no longer offer a sideshow during their runway exhibitions.

I'm not saying I dislike IOC today, or then, merely documenting the line's forward motion.

I apologize the image quality is a bit lacking. Have you ever noticed that is you want images for a fashion show more than a couple seasons back they are nearly impossible to find?
