It's National Crime Prevention Week. Take a burglar to dinner.

One of my favorite films to watch for the pure pleasure of entertainment is How To Steal A Million. Starring Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole this comedy caper about the daughter of an art forger who hires a thief to help her steal one of her father's sculptures from an art museum, is pure delight. Every line is witty and Audrey is wonderfully endearing as the slightly naive and earnest first-time burglar who falls for her partner in crime. Audrey seems to feel that when meeting to conspire with her hired thief she must dress the part, my favorite scene is where she wears a little black lace mask "to be discreet." Isn't it wonderful when characters in films dress up as if they would like to be characters in films?
Final thought: watch this film if you want to laugh. Film stills gratefully borrowed from Picked Pics

Blau, Azul, Bleu, Biru, Mavi

I have a thing for the color blue--it sort of goes beyond just being my favorite color and has become a minor obsession. Recently I got my mitts on some vibrant blue nail polish, which means I now have blue eyes, blue skin (via my tattoo), and blue nails (all that is left is blue hair!). In addition, I am reading a book on the history of blue which investigates the origins and various symbolic meaning the color has held in various cultures. Fascinatingly, the color wasn't present in ancient artwork or manuscripts and some experts used to hypothesize that ancient peoples actually couldn't see the color...

Careful Boys She's Got Sharp Edges

While the spikes on Rodarte's runway can fall into the "trendy" category for some, for me it was love at first sight. If I ever manage to get my hands on spiked shoes I will wear them long past their "in" season--particularly since I can't really afford to keep up with trends anyway.

These pieces by Made Her Think could add a nice punch of edge to my wardrobe. I like the idea of wearing really tough jewelry with my usual dresses.

Splashes Of Yellow

I want begin by to thanking everyone who left words of encouragement on my drawings yesterday...the shop idea has been a thought in my head for awhile now and I'm on the path to taking it more seriously...
This is my favorite sweatshirt in the whole wide world and I got it passed down to me from an older sister--I was never a girl scout. The sweatshirt always catches people's eyes and I tend to get a lot of questions about it...basically there was a unit of girl scouts in Nurnberg at one time. Outside of nostalgia I really like the colors and graphic qualities of the design...makes me want to create a personal shield of arms.

I tend to have subconscious themes running through my outfits on concurrent days. Lately it appears I am drawn to mustard yellow; I think I would like more mustard yellow in my life.

You Asked For It

A post of my doodles. I'm not majoring in art, these are just what I like to do in a small journal to pass the time. I find it rather soothing to draw when I'm bored or stressed.
P.S. I'm considering opening a small Etsy shop...thoughts? Would anyone buy a print?

Now The Fables Have Grown Old

I find it interesting how books always get a big reaction from bloggers--even the "frivolous" fashion blog niche in which I am entrenched. To me, it seems very logical that those who like to express themselves through writing, also like to read. A passion in the latter almost always seems to lead to dabbling in the former. I would also be interested in knowing who among the aesthetically affected stylish crowd would describe themselves as bookworms or even nerds.
Personally, I spent many of my lunch periods in high school reading a novel in the art room rather than socializing. I still tend to eat my meals in my room choosing written word over companionship; a habit that friends find endearing (hopefully), but can also trouble people. While I know that I am not an island, it is hard sometimes to deal with reality when one is so moved by characters and word play...
I really adore this idea of a shared meal from "House Like Lotus" by Madeleine L'Engle:
"Sometimes when I went over to Beau Allaire, Max and I ate together, with books open beside us on the table, and didn't talk, unless one of us wanted to read something to the other."

Conspiracy Theories

Has Marc Jacobs met Bunny Bisous (Julia Frakes), because his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection really reminded me of her...also, it would be history repeating itself somewhat. Marc Jacobs did name a bag after Bryanboy and then created an advertising campaign that also referenced that blogger. So, will the bunny be the next course at MJ?
