Wandering With Timid Footsteps

Ah yes, thanks to the marveled experience of living out of suitcase for nearly three months now this Triptych dress gets remixed once again. It is a good thing this is my favorite dress at the moment otherwise I might be tempted by boredom to burn the contents of my suitcase...so tired of the same options day after day.

Plain White Walls

Our new home, courtesy of military housing, is really fun to explore in it's barren state and with the air conditioning going it is a nice oasis from the sweltering 90+ temperatures outside (the heat is melting the style out of me and I keep dreaming of fall layers). I'm loving the numerous windows, plain white walls and glossy wood floors; everything just feels clean and spacious. I may just become one of those "plain white wall" bloggers who pose indoors against...erm, plain white walls.

Learning About Lena

I've been enjoying the photographs of Lena Modigh for awhile, so I took a little time to interview the woman behind the striking images.
What are your inspirations?
Travels. Interior magazines. Gardens. Beaches. The Ocean. Other photographers like are: Ingar Krauss, Nan Goldin, Mary Ellen Mark, Francesca Woodman, Diane Arbus, Patti Smith, Horst Diekgerdes, Johan Sandberg, Lina Scheynius, etc. It really varies; I find new photographers all the time.

What are your favorite books and movies?
Some of my favourite books are: A prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, The Map of Love by Ahdaf Soueif, Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje and Even Cowgirls Get the Blues by Tom Robbins.
Movies: As White as in Snow, Strictly Ballroom, Lilja 4-ever, Sex and Lucia, Everything is Illuminated, Hair, The Big Blue, Control.....the list is long.
Do you often have a concept behind your shoots?
Sometimes I have a concept, or story as a guideline, but it usually changes during the day of shooting...
What is one thing you love about photography?
I love that you can capture a feeling or a motion, at one specific moment and it's there forever.

Across Rivers, Farms and Statelines

My epic, never-ending journey continues and I have now traveled down to Virginia, the site of my new home. We are exploring the new base, but still living out of suitcases (ugh!) for awhile yet. This military base is quite interesting; it's located right on the beach, but also has a central part that is separated from the rest of the base by a moat. I climbed up the hill to walk along the moat and take some pictures of it. People were fishing here and I even saw a bald eagle wing by. It is going to be a very interesting place to live...for a year.

Blowfish Shoes Giveaway!

I'm really excited about this week's giveaway because there will be two winners! I've partnered with Blowfish Shoes to give away two pairs of shoes. The winners will be allowed to pick their favorite pair from the selection featured in this post. Blowfish shoes believes that personal style is just another form of self expression and they want to make shoes for "creative girls who can put together a look with effortless originality." Their shoes take a note from ages past, but always keep it modern and a bit unexpected.

The two winners will be allowed to choose their favorite from these four pairs: the santion, the walsh, the wheaton, and the willa. I chose these pairs because I like them, but I also wanted to showcase a variety of styles: there are heels and flat, boots and ballets. Each pair also comes in a variety of colors. All this to say: I really believe most readers will be able to find a pair from this selection they would like to wear.
To Enter:
-visit Blowfish
-leave a link in the comments here to your favorite pair of shoes on the site
-open to International readers, only one entry per person, the winner will be drawn on 10/4
*please leave a way for me to contact you; all of my winners are informed directly

That Voodoo That You Do So Well

the clothes horse, family affairs, velvet dress, nude heels, redhead, sheer blouse, fall, fashion, style, retro, vintage, cemetery, noir
After a late summer trip living in a suitcase and mostly wearing black, I'm quite excited to be dressing in colors again. Although I'm still living out of suitcase so the same clothes I've been wearing for the past 7 weeks still must be remixed for a couple of weeks yet...This fall I want to focus on interesting colors and unusual combinations. So, this peachy nude blouse and luxurious gold velvet dress at the Family Affairs studio really made me swoon. Erin and Nina convinced me that the blouse looks best buttoned all the way up (I'm usually partial to an open collar). I can't wait to wear this outfit with orange tights, brown shoes, and my Gardens of Whimsy wreath once the weather gets a little cooler...The Toujours Toi little ghost necklace seemed an especially apt addition considering my destination that day.

Detail Of The Week: Owl Purse

I spotted this owl purse in a market in Florence, Italy and quickly trotted over to the stall for a closer look. My sister saw it at the same time and we nearly had a little tug-o-war over it, but she graciously allowed me to purchase the gem. It's been quite the statement piece and garnered a lot of positive attention at NYFW. It also happens to be the perfect size to carry my camera and the straps can be switched to make it an across the body bag or a backpack (the latter style I highly doubt I will ever utilize). Since everyone has been raving about the purse, I thought I'd feature it in a detail post.
