That's crackers!

I felt very prim and proper in my outfit today, mostly due to the crochet lace collar that came to me from my mother but was made by either my grandmother or great-grandmother (I should get my facts straight). However, I had to work this evening and it seemed very ironic/ridiculous to take my pictures around the campus convenience store.

Green dress- Forever 21, cream skirt (under)- some Japanese store, tights- bought at a supermarket, shoes- vintage (Fairey Godmother's), vintage feather fascinator- eBay, crochet collar- from my mother

Rediscovery

I feel like I am rediscovering or finding pieces of myself that I had lost or forgotten lately (although sometimes you never realize something is missing until you find it). I stumbled across my favorite gold butterfly earrings, a gift from my mother, this weekend, and then today I went to the library with a friend. As a bookworm I used to make weekly visits to the library struggling out with nearly more books than I could carry (somewhere between 7-10 a week), especially when I was younger. This semester though I've been re-reading old books or books I've received as gifts, so it had been a while since I had ventured back into the stillness the library offers. I really love the atmosphere when one is surrounded by books and quiet--there's a sense of anticipation and potential, like anything could happen and just might. I'm looking forward to more frequent visits to my favorite place this summer.

I'm going to start posting where my items come from, if I can remember! Dress- vintage (bought at the antique shop last weekend), beret- uniform store (part of my old school uniform), belt-vintage (bought at a vintage store in Sapporo, Japan), shoes- Urban Outfitters, tights- Target, bag- the Stadium Swapmeet (Honolulu, HI)

And before I forget: Please participate by voting in The Undie Awards; the organizer will donate $.25 for each individual voter to the National Cervical Cancer Public Education Campaign. And the voting ends at the end of the month, so don't delay!

Rain, Rain Go Away

The weather persists in raining and being miserable, but I still ventured out on this runners' path through the woods behind my school. The path goes from mud to these wooden bridge-like structures. Everything does look pleasantly green in the pictures.

Tying Up Loose Ends

I am supposed to be asleep right now; enjoying my after 8:00am class nap. Unfortunately the fire alarm going off startled me into wakefulness and drove me outside into the rain with all of the other sheep on my floor. So, instead of getting enough sleep (to avoid crabbiness) I will answer all the tags I have gotten lately.

First, there is a tag from Stylish Wanderer on the musings of modern originality, can it truly exist? The impossibility of original works of art (or fashion) because everything has already been attempted or thought of is one many artists debate currently and I briefly mentioned it here. The thought behind this tag, finding what is original about our generation instead of harping on our shortcomings is very nifty. What do I think is original about our generation? The way we are so free in our style choices. Many other generations had a definitive style slant, characteristics that made it easy to identify, but for us we wear vintage and absorb trends so quickly that there's constant change and everyone can be stylish while looking completely different. We're not slaves to only one style perspective.
Finally, the 5 things tag from That's Just My Vibe.
5 Things found in my bag: A book, my digital camera, my moleskine (and a pen), safety pins (you never know), and a bottle of water (I almost never leave home without one).
5 Things found in my purse (I'm a little confused, isn't this the same as bag?): my sequined pineapple wallet, my military id card, moths (you know those old comics when the character opens their wallet and only dust and moths come out?), and chapstick.
5 Favorite Things in my room: my bed, my rice cooker, my clean laundry (which hasn't been put away yet), and my laptop.
5 Things I've always wanted to do: learn to play the drums, write a novel, have my own dark room (for photography), and live in a tree house or a glass bubble on the bottom of the ocean.
5 Things I'm currently into: getting my white sneakers dirty, enjoying the great outdoors, granny smith apples, summer reading lists I create myself, and finishing the semester.
And 5 Impressions on Poppy Lee (who tagged me): she has perfect hair, she might have an addiction to socks (but that's okay), I like the giant painting behind her, she has excellent taste, and really great pins!
For now, this is what I'm wearing: obnoxiously pink nails and pants.

An Old Curiosity Shop

We drove through apple orchards full of white blossoms with the windows down listening for spring peepers and smelling the coming storm on the wind. Small, quaint houses and abandoned barns are passed on our mission to reach a small antique and vintage shop. We arrive to a yard full of junk and curiosities. Metal figurines of flying pigs, stone statues, doors, and even the occasional tub fills the grassy lawn with interest and eccentricity. Inside hosts even more bizarre items from deer's heads with vintage wedding veils on top to a collection of vintage telephones. It's easy to see why it's crowded; every corner holds the potential for a hidden treasure.

America's Mermaid

My movie preferences are highly influenced by the seasons, so it should be no surprise that warmer weather and sunshine makes me long for Esther Williams. There only was and ever will be one Esther Williams. Isn't it a wonderful piece of film history that made a beautiful swimmer and diver into a movie star?

Many of her films are nostalgic delight, but at the moment Take Me Out to the Ball Game with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra seems most appropriate.

Shoot 'Em Up

I was planning on having a water gun fight with friends, so I dressed like Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde, only ironically real drama got in the way of our make believe feud.

We Both Go Down Together

I took these pictures on a location on campus called "sex fields." You see the fields are secluded and being a conservative school sex before marriage is prohibited by school regulations, so rumor has it that these fields act as a rendezvous spot. A friend called while I was out there and when she discovered where I was located she wanted to know why. I decided to leave her wondering...

I Wear My Sunglasses At Night

I've been spending a lot of time outside enjoying the new warmth and sunlight. The air is heavy with the fragrances of spring growth. On such days it is difficult to complete work and other necessary tasks. Here We Go, Here We Go Again

I've been tagged by Little Boat to give a basics post, which I have avoided in the past since this challenge seems like so much effort to dig through my wardrobe and dresser to find "basic" items...

Two of my basics are black liquid eyeliner and various scarves, all are either secondhand or gifts or once belonged to my mother (and I have more).eyeliner, vintage, mirror, make, up, applicationscarves, vintage, secondhand, style, fashion, thrifted, the, clothes, horse, theclotheshorse
I am addicted to ballet flats despite being 5'1" (I always give my exact height, because what some people term "short" is very vague) and my adoration of vests is nothing new.ballet, flats, shoes, style, vintage, personal, fashion, the, clothes, horse, theclotheshorsevests, inspiration, wall, style, menswear
