Les Modes Parisiennes

These illustrations come from Les Modes Parisiennes series originally published in 1889 in Peterson's Magazine. Each one has a title describing the appropriate scene for the fashions, such as "an afternoon musicale" or "at the zoological garden." I find myself envying their outings as much as I covet their sartorial elegance. The strictness of their silhouettes do make me prefer modern style, not just for the physical discomfort, but the exacting similarity in style. Every dress looks so alike with only a few minuscule changes in detail or pattern so that differentiation is next to impossible.
