Paris Sous La Pluie

On a rainy day here in Paris my sister and I spent most of our time in our borrowed apartment escaping the bad weather. It was actually a pleasant little breather, as I have been tourist-ing nonstop in Paris. Every day has been a long and lovely walk to some interesting destination and then an equally long walk back. After awhile, as much as you enjoy seeing new things, you just want to put your feet up and eat some macarons.
I took these pictures using my tripod in the stairwell and hallway outside of our apartment. It's a dark, narrow little space so it was quite difficult to get images I was satisfied with, especially as I quite dislike pictures taken indoors in general. Still, the outfit is Proenza Schouler inspired, so I thought I would share my slightly Gothic, school girl outfit.

Explosure

Some of the best photographers use "old school" techniques to create mind-blowing images that are better than anything that could be digitally created. Case in point: Tierney Gearon who used double exposures to create chance-narratives of startling and captivating scenes. The result are surreal images that bring together vastly opposed elements from groups of people, to landscapes and seasons. In many ways the set distills the myth that photography can't lie...

Pere Lachaise Cemetery

the clothes horse, personal style, fashion, retro, vintage, primark, horse print, romper, pere lachaise cemetery, paris, franceMy sister and I spent a some time getting lost in the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. We did not literally lose our way, but in that maze it could easily have happened (especially if I had ventured there alone). Although, the Pere Lachaise is reported to be the most visited cemetery in the world, on this particular day it was a very quiet space in the bustling city. A cold wind whipped between the tombstones and brown leaves rustled beneath our feet, making it seem as if fall is truly on its way.

Reflecting On Ocean Voyages

No plans to spend your dreary winter days at a cabin in the woods? No worries, you can travel there vicariously through Family Affairs' new Fall/Winter 2010 lookbook. The collection feels a bit like a gothic romance and as always, the descriptions Family Affairs gives their items are better than my own imaginings. "The heroine is holed up in a mountain house made of wood--Sitting at the kitchen table with a fire going, tea and cake and a fat cat by her side, reflecting on the ocean voyages she’s taken and enjoying the peace and beauty of being in nature." Her adventures name the pieces of the collection and make you want to be the sort of girl who belongs in them.

P.S. Their upcoming new collection, also means many of their current pieces are now on sale!

Bridges Over The Seine: Pont Alexandre III

I'm quite enamored with the bridges in Paris, there are a plethora stretching across the Seine and canals, each offering seemingly endless variety. Decorative architecture really appeals to the Rococo devotee in me and I've stumbled across a few places that feature this style here. My sister and I happened across the Pont Alexandre III bridge on our wanderings and decided to pause and snap a few pictures.

There's something about the decadence and gaudiness of the Rococo period and style that I find enthralling. I tend to be a minimalist in my personal wardrobe, but I think I harbor some maximalism tendencies. My apartment (which I feel as if I have been talking about and planning since I was 15...) will hopefully be a colorful, crowded little hole that resembles a curiosity shop rather than a home...although the practical side of me (which is probably what keeps my style simple) wonders if I won't create that apartment for many years to come, because I hate the thought of filling every nook and cranny only to rip it apart and pack it up in less than four years time...and four years is the longest I've ever lived anywhere.

Paris Markets

My sister and I have wandered into a few different markets during our time here in Paris. Some quite remind me of ones I visit in the States, but this particular one that I photographed here seemed more...romantic. You just don't see vendors selling individual glasses of wine at flea markets where I come from.
