Dear Beatrice Invites You To A Tea Party

I first found Dear Beatrice through Erin's Tumblr and it was quite a happy discovery. Her style is sweet, colorful and never boring. I asked Beatrice to plan a dream party for us and the results were as whimsical and sweet as she seems.
What type of party is it?
It's an enchanted tea party under the stars.
Who's invited?
Eric Northman, Jane Austen, Frida Kahlo, Anna Karina, Mr. Darcy, Edgar Allan Poe, the evil Queen from Snow White, Nana in her 2D manga form, Holden Caulfield, Walt Disney, and my sister.
Where does it take place?
In a pretty enchanted, but mysterious, forest at dusk with howling wolfs in the distance. The lighting is soft and dim with the help of floating candles and fireflies. There are no tables, just soft floral blankets on the ground with lots of pillows.
What are you serving?
Finger sandwiches and lots of sweet pastries like macarons and tarts with tea of course and wine. There are also a few packs of True Blood for my vampire.
Who would get to sit next to you?
Eric Northman on one side so I could convince him to turn me into a vampire and Jane Austen on the other to talk quietly about the mysterious Mr. Darcy and what the lifestyle and fashion of her times were really like.
What is everyone wearing?
Everyone is wearing what they want, but I'm wearing a pretty cream silk dress with lace from the Regency era.
Is there a special play list or entertainment?
The play list consists of shoegaze music like Slowdive and Resplandor with some Broadcast mixed in there. For entertainment we'll play hide and seek and the evil Queen will read our cards afterward.
Are there any party favors?
Everyone will get to take home a character drawing of themselves thanks to Walt Disney.
What are the hot topics of the evening?
Walt and the evil Queen go at it about Snow White. Apparently the evil Queen wants her heart but Walt isn't having any nonsense from her. It gets awkward between Jane and Mr. Darcy while Frida and Nana laugh about it. My sister and Anna are smitten with Holden but he plays it cool and starts having a highly intellectual, and not to mention pointless, conversation with Edgar. I try to convince Eric to turn me into a vampire but he won't budge so I make sure to tell him that I have Sookie locked away to make him understand.
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
Without a doubt that would be myself and my sister, although there are no tables but definitely dancing.
Who is the last to leave?
Eric was a big help and called the cleaning crew.

The Stylish Heart

Sarah of The Stylish Heart somehow always manages to look both stylish and cozy. Her layering skills are amazing and I'm particularily inspired by her penchant for wearing shorts in creative outfits. Nearly all of her outfits end up on my Tumblr, so it only seemed appropriate to interview Sarah and get to know the girl behind the blog a bit...through some dream party-planning.
What type of party is it?
an opposites party. the boys have to dress as girls, and the girls as boys.
Who's invited?
morrissey, barack obama, alexa chung, jack bauer, and ian curtis.
Where does it take place?
hogwarts.
What are you serving?
lots and lots of cake. no meat or else morrissey would get mad. cookies, pie, and there would be a chocolate fountain to dip the cookies and pie in. parties aren't fun with healthy food.
Who gets to sit next to you?
alexa would sit next to me. i would ply her with copious amounts of alcohol and convince her to give me all of her clothes.
What is the theme?
well everyone's dressed as the opposite gender. ian curtis is looking especially cute in a vintage dress and t-bars. alexa grew a moustache especially. jack bauer refused to dress up.
Is there a special play list or entertainment?
cheesy 80's tunes, of course. we'd play scrabble, but only with rude words.
What are the hot topics of the evening?
everyone's talking about middle-eastern politics and lindsey lohan. and what morrissey was doing in the toilet all that time...
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
let's be honest, it's barack. a guy has to let off steam somehow, i bet it's tough being the leader of the free world.
Who is the last to leave?
me!

Adventures Of The Traveling Beret

I recently participated in a traveling beret project created by the super stylish Shan Shan who makes the most amazing berets (I will own one of her beret's one day!). She featured the pictures I took on her blog and said the most lovely things. It's was such an honor to be invited by Shan Shan to participate in this project!

Tick Tock Time To Party

One of my favorite blogs to read lately is Tick Tock Vintage. The lady behind the blog, Veronika is seriously stylish with rad color-mixing skills and an eye for amazing vintage pieces. She graciously took aside some time to do an interview for me and so I had her plan her dream dinner party complete with eclectic guest list and a delectable menu.
What type of party is it?

a dinner party! after we're done eating, we'll make a bonfire and toast marshmallows and dance the night away.
Who's invited?
dolly parton, francoise hardy, mary poppins, audrey tautou, ABBA, chris conley, hugh grant, ina garten, old friends, new friends, and you!
bryan and i would be cuddled up next to the fire; he'd be finishing up his bourbon, and i'd be finishing off the rest of the ice cream.Where does it take place?
on the grounds of an 18th century estate; there's lots of string lights and candles, and we'll all eat at long tables.
What are you serving?
ina decided that she'd take care of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres (i couldn't decline), and brought mint juleps, pimm's cups and a whole spread of cheeses. for dinner, we're having barbecue! there's pulled pork, cedar smoked salmon, potato salads, and jalapeno cornbread. if you've finished all your dinner, there's ice cream sundaes for dessert (with a full toppings bar, of course).
Who gets to sit next to you? my man would take the spot to my right because we come as a pair. mary poppins is on the left; i simply must know how she fit all of her belongings into that tiny bag.
What is the theme or what is everyone wearing?
originally, there wasn't going to be a theme but dolly complained. i obliged and asked everyone to wear some sort of costume, but gave no other specifics. mary poppins dressed as a cupid, francoise was disguied as charlie chaplin, and hugh was in drag.
Is there special entertainment?
during dinner, a local bluegrass band played. dancing music was a mix of 60's pop, 90's hip-hop, and a whole lot of new order. after one too many pimm's cups, chris conley convinced ABBA to finish off the night with 'take a chance on me'.
Are there any party favors?
in lieu of favors, we set up a photobooth with more props than you could ever ask for. everyone took home their favorite photos from the night.
What are the hot topics of the evening?
dolly spent much of the night questioning hugh about his exceptional make-up application, while the rest of us placed bets on how long his wig would stay on (audrey won with her guess of exactly 9:24 pm).
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
dolly parton and myself.
Who is the last to leave?

Here's Looking At Me Kid

So, I've been blogging for three years and I only just did my first guest blog post! It's a remix for Here's Looking At Me Kid. Hop on over there to see me wearing my new Trashy Diva dress 7 different ways. This is also the dress I wore on Christmas Eve and it's probably my new favorite. It's called the Doris mini; I love the shape, material, and the fact it comes with pockets. I want to get it in other colors and prints!

Anyway, if you want to see some other ideas I have for wearing it, the full post is here. I'm really flattered to be invited to post on her blog, because it is fantastic!

Tea Party With Valentine

the clothes horse, helloitsvalentine, theclotheshorse, interview, fashion, style, retro, vintage

One of my favorite new blogs to follow is Hello It's Valentine. Valentine is a stylish French girl who wears ribbons and florals well, often while riding a vintage bicycle and generally excuding charm...basically if you read her blog long enough you just want to run away to France and steal her life! Valentine was kind enough to let me interview her in the form of planning her dream party.the clothes horse, helloitsvalentine, theclotheshorse, interview, fashion, style, retro, vintage
What type of party is it?
A disguised tea-party (I'm not a night girl).
Who's invited?
Frida Kahlo since she was a real party girl, Lewis Carroll for "Alice" books, sir Paul McCartney, Olsen Twins so I can chat with them about fashion, Coco Rosie's sisters....and blogger friends!
Where does it take place?
It takes place at a cottage (since I'd love living in a cute cottage in England), with a garden, flowers, a veranda, (winter garden) and a cosy living-room with a chimney.
the clothes horse, helloitsvalentine, theclotheshorse, interview, fashion, style, retro, vintageWhat are you serving?
Cupcakes (of course), scones, fairy cakes, muffins, tiny sandwiches, Darjeeling tea in several teapots--and a dormouse would be asleep in one of them!
Who would get to sit next to you?
Frida Kahlo, because I love her; she was so charismatic and beautiful. But also we're all seated all around a circle table.
the clothes horse, helloitsvalentine, theclotheshorse, interview, fashion, style, retro, vintageWhat is the theme?
Everyone is wearing something on the theme "polka dots." That would be really photogenic, and totally mad--all those dots and colors on each guest!
Is there a special play list or entertainment?
To begin, a Mexican Mariachi band would play the guitar and after that we'd all dance to The Beatles, The Kinks, Canned Heat, Otis Redding, Bary White...Good music only!!!
the clothes horse, helloitsvalentine, theclotheshorse, interview, fashion, style, retro, vintage
What are the hot topics of the evening?
Fashion, music (McCartney would tell us some secret about his past gigs with The Beatles), painting, photographs, mad stories. A fun and creative time with interesting people.
the clothes horse, helloitsvalentine, theclotheshorse, interview, fashion, style, retro, vintageWho is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
No one would be drunk, I don't like drunk people; they often ruin the good atmosphere...
Who is the last to leave?
The dormouse ;)

Dance Party With Lydia

lydia,
If there's one blogger who works the cute and adorable style with great aplomb it is Lydia of Style Is Style. Lydia rocks mixed prints, fantastic accessories from hats to brightly colored heels, and trends like anorak jackets with ease and her signature big smile. Perhaps it is that bold, happy expression that gives all of her outfits a sweet finish. Since I enjoy Lydia's style and blog so much it was a natural progression that I interview her and learn what her dream party would be like...
lydia, style is style, the clothes horseWhat type of party is it?
An all night dance party!
Who's invited?
Some 1950's teddy girls, my favourite bloggers, Queen Elizabeth I, James Dean, Leith Clark (editor in chief of Lula Magazine), Florence Welch and La Roux.
Where does it take place?
In an abandoned English manor, thanks to Queen E's connections! There is a lake in the front, and the guests are milling about by the water while Noisettes get the party started with a live concert.
lydia, style is style, the clothes horseWhat are you serving?
Pastel cupcakes and the most delicious assortment of chocolates... Anything sweet and gourmet! There is a fountain pouring nothing but pink champagne, with lovely mismatched tea cups to sip it from. If you ask the waiters (who look smashing with sky high pompadours), they'll bring you a French 76.
Who gets to sit next to you?
Florence Welch and Leith Clark are sitting beside me, mostly because Florence left her side of the table to come talk to Leith. We are geeking out about great vintage, hidden gems at thrift stores, dresses vs. pants, the latest issue of Lula, and Florence's general ethereal wonder woman-ness.
lydia, style is style, the clothes horseWhat is the theme?
It's a costume ball, and every one is dressed up in a Marie Antoinette inspired outfit. A lot of pastels, and pieces from the last Luella collection are popping up in everyone's outfits. La Roux's is rocking a cotton candy page-boy look (her hair even has a peach streak!), and Queen Elizabeth is defiantly wearing one of her trademark regal collared gowns. She was a little peeved that the theme was Marie Antoinette, but I convinced her to come with the promise of endless pink champagne!
Is there a special play list?
After the Noisettes set was over, the playlist was strictly danceable. On repeat? The Twist by The Beatles (a cover, no doubt). Lots of Robyn, The Shangri-Las, Gossip, La Roux, Franz Ferdinand, Little Richard. Appropriately, the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette was played. And yes, there was some Top 40...Katy Perry anyone?
lydia, style is style, the clothes horseAre there any party favors?
Everyone got a heart shaped wallet with filled bright colored Lime Crime lipstick and gummy worms.
What are the hot topics of the evening?
All the bloggers were, of course, chatting about how great their outfit photos would look by the lake! Everyone couldn't wait to post about the party (especially the dashingly handsome waiters). Florence and La Roux were trading dance moves, and I think Leith asked Queen Elizabeth I where she gets her shoes. I think I heard some mention of Leith getting the secret to ruling England.
lydia, style is style, the clothes horseWho is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
The teddy girls are most definitely table dancing, and I think I saw one of them sneak into the men's bathroom after James Dean disappeared to fix his lovely pomp. I'm not sure what happened, but I think there was lipstick on his collar when I saw him leaving the party!
Who is the last to leave?
Leith Clark! All the talk of frilly fantasy made her lose track of time. Before we knew it, it was 5 AM and the sun was coming up. Sunrise at an English manor is the perfect setting for an ethereal photoshoot, no?

In A Treehouse With Starr

One of my favorite bloggers lately is Starr of A Thought Is The Blossom. Her outfits are always beautifully shot in intriguing locations from snowy hillsides to abandoned mattresses, but what really captivates the eye are the outfits themselves. She's not afraid to experiment with unique vintage hats, funny sunglasses, or even an eye-catching cape. To get to know the lady behind the style and the blog a bit better I asked Starr to plan her dream party for us...
What type of party is it?
It's a magical treehouse party, set 20-stories in the sky!
Who's invited?
Thom Yorke, Greg Cartwright, Sophia Coppola, Stanley Kubrik, The Dude, Clara Bow, Orla Kiely, Oscar Wilde, Orry Kelly, Aubrey Beardsley, a young Marie Antoinette, Marcus Aurelius, Stephen Hawking, my great-great-grandpa, and Mary Poppins – Jane & Michael can come too but they have to go to bed early!
Where does it take place?
In the forest, nestled between hundreds of trees that each have their own wooden swing.
What are you serving?
Nothing but pastries, ice cream, and White Russians. There's every kind of ice cream imaginable, along with fruit tarts and rhubarb pie, chocolate covered cannoli and lemon rolls, and just about any kind of sweet treat your mind can think up!
Who would get to sit next to you?
It really wasn't too formal, everyone was free to move around as they wished, but I found myself spending a lot of time with Oscar Wilde. He must have gotten tired of all my questions about the Fin de siècle and for that reason, I saved a bunch [of questions] for Aubrey Beardsley. I really didn't want to miss a chance to talk with everyone though, so I would just chat for a bit and move on. I think my favorite part was when Orry Kelly told me he liked my dress!
What is the theme?
The theme was dandies and dolls. Everyone wore a muted palette, the men with top hats, tailored pantaloons, and double breasted swallow-tail coats, and the women wore short Edwardian frocks, some with sweet peter pan collar and ruffles, others with lace trim and big bow collars. The men wore shiny wing-tipped oxfords while the women sported short-heeled Mary Janes and two tone lace up wedges. Despite the costumes, everyone still looked distinctly unique in their own one of a kind way. The Dude's coat was even made of towelling.
Is there any entertainment?
The beginning of the party was quite relaxed. We mingled and got to know each other a little better whilst nibbling on our sugar and sipping on our cocktails – they always help to lighten the mood – and then we took turns playing the piano that was tucked into the corner of the center room near two windows draped in sheer white curtains. We sung along to the songs we knew and hummed to the ones we didn't, and we joked about how Thom Yorke dominated that part of the evening.
Then we all took a seat to watch a comical play about a young boy growing up in the South written by Aristophanes and performed by Johnny Depp, Ruby Keeler, John Wayne, Kirsten Dunst, and Elizabeth Barry. It was full of laughter and little whispers throughout!
After the play, we listened to old blues records from the 60's! Clara Bow tried to teach us the Charleston and Marie Antoinette, the contredanse. Ten o'clock turned to midnight, midnight turned to 4AM, and before you knew it we're all sitting on a swing near the forest floor watching the suns arms grab our feet.
Are there any party favors?
Just across the room from the piano, located next to the front door, was a photo booth for everyone to visit throughout the night. I got my photo made with everyone but Stephen Hawking and Mary Poppins. For some reason, I never made it over that way with them. I think my favorite set is the one of me and Clara Bow! She was such a good time which resulted in some of the goofiest pictures. Marie Antoinette initially thought we were doing witchcraft, but after we explained how the mirrors and light paths in cameras work, she agreed to get in the booth with us. I figured photos from the evening would be the most meaningful party favor!
What are the hot topics of the evening?
Most of the chatter involved questions about particular periods. Everyone from the modern age was curious about the 18th and 19th centuries, while the others wanted to know all about the latest inventions. Their was really no gossip or talk about politics or religion, rather the evening functioned as a creative melting pot for old and new ideas alike. It was really cool watching new friendships brew: Thom Yorke and Greg Cartwright couldn't stop talking about music, Orry Kelly and Orla Kiely were already discussing a collaboration, Stanley Kubrik was interested in casting Marcus Aurelius in his next film, and Stephen Hawking had everyone from the earlier periods scratching their heads with disbelieve when he started explaining quantum gravity and black holes! It was all very surreal, as you can imagine.
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
Mary Poppins. She said that vodka has always had that affect on her – who would've guessed it!
Who is the last to leave?
Everyone leaves once the sun comes up. It isn't until I made my way back to the treehouse that I found The Dude asleep on the hammock in the garden room. Who knows how long he had been sleeping in there!
