Exceptions To The Rule

As a general rule of thumb, I don't like pink. To be completely honest I worry that we are brainwashed to associate pink with femininity and I hate how marketers seem to assume that turning an item pink makes it appeal to a female audience (energy drink, cell phones, etc). That said, there are a few lovely exceptions to every rule.
Exception number one: Audrey Hepburn's pink cocktail dress in Breakfast at Tiffany's. This is by far my favorite outfit in that entire film.
Exception number two: The stunning (and brief) scene in Marie Antoinette where Kirsten Dunst has delicately pink hair. This might be the most perfect shade of hair ever.
Exception number three: Dogwood trees; they're one of my favorite spring flowers.

Exception number four: Over-the-top monochromatic, garishly pink outfits from the runway. Like these Givenchy Couture from Fall 2008.

I'm Growing Gills

The weather has been miserable lately; raining nearly constantly. I will either grow gills or build an ark if this madness doesn't end soon. Still, the sole benefit of all the rain is how green everything is becoming.

I Make Him Pay For What He Does Want

I have recommended The Women before (do not confuse this masterpiece with that latest monstrosity starring Meg Ryan which makes me shudder just to think of it...), but I only recently came across these wonderful film stills.
One of the most interesting scenes in the film is a fashion show that is shot in color while the rest of the film is black and white. (It's actually rather shocking to watch the film and be jarringly thrown between the two.) The scene is a rather fun look at what the society lady of the 1930s-1940s saw as stylish.
Note: Here's Sylvia wearing her "seeing eye" blouse that I would like to steal from her.

Oh My, DIY

There's nothing quite like sitting on the floor of your dorm room at 1:00am watching Spartacus and cutting up an old tee shirt to make a ruffle trim on your American Apparel U-back dress...or so I hear.
Outfit details: dress- American Apparel (customized by me), skirt- American Apparel, tights- Walmart, shoes- Urban Outfitters, sunglasses- Urban Outfitters, jacket- Urban Outfitters

The single most worn item in my wardrobe has to be this Urban Outfitters tan jacket. I've had it for more than three years and bought it on sale for $12, after coveting it for months! It has been to a lot of places with me and never disappoints.

Wait A Minute Mr. Postman

There's nothing quite like getting mail to make your day wonderful. I recently received the most delightful package from Philippa of We Own These Streets. The main content was a hand-stitched bow for my hair, but the entire package was just one cute layer after another! Thank you Philippa, I love the bow!
